Diamond Global Terminals expands SA depot network

Diamond Global Terminals has inaugurated a 49 000 m² container depot and warehouse facility in Johannesburg, adding capacity to its logistics network serving southern and central Africa.

The Johannesburg site, which includes 17 000 m² under roof, was launched on October 21, two days after the Sharaf Group inaugurated new depot and warehouse facilities in Durban.

The Johannesburg facility connects with operations in Durban, Cape Town and Mozambique as well as offices in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi, said Diamond Global Terminals CEO Guy Harvey at the launch.

The network gives customers connections “from coast to Copperbelt”, linking international cargo flows with regional mines, farms and markets, he said.

Harvey said the company combines its knowledge of regional borders, corridors and ports with the Sharaf Group’s shipping network and investment backing.

“Together we connect the factories of the world to the mines, the farms, the markets of sub-Saharan Africa and we carry Africa’s exports back to the world.”

The Johannesburg facility reflects that partnership, Harvey said, acknowledging the team’s work over the past six months to get the site operational.

“We keep investing and we keep building wherever our clients need us.”

South Africa remains central to the group’s investment plans, Sharaf Group Vice President Salah Sharaf said.

The group established its presence in the country in 1997, making South Africa its first investment destination on the African continent and its second internationally, he said.

“South Africa remains central to our long-term investment strategy.”

Sharaf said the group will continue investing in South Africa and elsewhere on the continent. Its terminal developments intend to provide logistics facilities that meet international standards and respond to changing industry requirements.

Success depends on operational performance, customer trust and the value delivered over time, he added.
