Movement Software acquires Freeway

Movement Software has acquired Freeway Fleet Systems, a fleet maintenance and asset management software supplier headquartered in Johannesburg and London, extending the group’s presence in Southern Africa and other international markets.

The acquisition, announced on October 21, brings Freeway into a Northern European group of more than 20 software companies operating across transport and logistics, vehicle technology and public mobility. The transaction value was not disclosed.

Freeway will continue operating under its existing brand with its current team and products, according to the announcement.

The company supplies bus, coach and other road transport operators with software covering maintenance scheduling, defect reporting, workshop management, spare parts, purchasing and fleet cost analysis. Its mobile applications support driver checks, inspections and electronic job cards.

Movement said Freeway’s maintenance software will complement the passenger information and operator fleet management systems already within its public mobility business.

The acquisition also gives the group access to Freeway’s customer base in the UK, Ireland, Southern Africa, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.

Movement’s Business Area Director: Public Mobility, Per Stenman, said the company plans to introduce Freeway’s products to operators in Northern Europe while expanding the reach of its wider transport software portfolio through Freeway’s existing markets.

Freeway Managing Director Patrick Tandy said the company will gain access to investment, technical expertise and shared platforms within the group.

“Our customers keep everything they value: the same team, the same products and the same service,” he said.

Freeway plans to offer Movement’s complementary software to customers across its existing markets, Tandy added. The announcement did not specify a timetable for introducing additional products.
