HUGO STINNES Linien was established in Germany in 1919, operating a service between Europe and South America.
Recent developments resulted in the company merging with various liner divisions of DSR Lines, to form DSR Stinnes.
In 1998 DSR/Stinnes took over the Europe - South Africa service from DSR Line, and operated with agents MSC until July this year, when Diamond Shipping took over.
DSR originally entered the SA trade with a conventional service in 1986. When it became clear that containerisation was the way to go, the company entered into a slot charter agreement with MSC in 1990, and it is this arrangement which H Stinnes has taken over, fitting comfortably into the company's niche-marketing philosophy.
