THE TOP Gauteng exporter will be recognised for the first time this year when the Johannesburg Metropolitan Chamber of Commerce & Industry (JMCCI) names the top contenders at a gala function in Johannesburg on November 30. The JMCCI/SCMB Standard Corporate and Merchant Bank Gauteng Exporter of the Year award is part of the Chamber's focus on the promotion of international trade, says JMCCI CEO Marius de Jager. The award will be presented in four categories - Manufacturing/production: over R15 million and under R15 million sponsored by Maersk Sealand; and export and support services: over R15 million and under R15 million sponsored by the National Ports Authority. The overall award of Exporter of the Year will be presented by SCMB. De Jager says that this structure ensures that companies in both the emerging and established sectors will be recognised for their efforts to sell into traditional and new markets that are opening up. "The award is being launched at a time when the rand/dollar exchange rate offers South African companies a window of opportunity to establish or expand their markets overseas," he said.
