Specialist niche covers national and overborder vehicle delivery

CATERING TO the needs of the automotive industry is one of many niche areas in which supply chain management and logistics company Auto Freight has developed specialist expertise. The Pretoria-based company transports vehicles predominantly from Gauteng to the port cities of Cape Town, Port Elizabeth and Durban but also moves vehicles nationally as well as within the SADC. Relying mainly on rail freight, the company has put in place a number of initiatives to ensure that cargo is timeously and cost effectively delivered. “Once the car has been manufactured, we have three days to deliver from the Reef to the dealer floor in the port cities,” says Auto Freight’s Dirch Olsen. “It’s all about providing the most cost-effective and efficient service, which is particularly important in the highly competitive automotive field.” The company’s comprehensive service incorporates various value added services besides the standard packaging, inspection and transporting functions. It is also active in the breakbulk and container sectors where it has built up a strong business base.
