French shipping line CMA CGM – together with Bolloré Transport and Logistics and the China Harbour Engineering Company – officially signed a concession agreement for management of the new deepwater container port in Kribi, Cameroon, yesterday (Tuesday).
The groups were granted the funding and operation of the Kribi Container Terminal (KCT) following an international call to tenders and will manage KCT for the next 25 years under a public-private partnership with the State of Cameroon.
The KCT can currently host ships of 8 000 TEU capacity, however it will eventually be able to operate 11 000-TEU vessels with the capacity to process 1.3 million TEUs once phase two of the infrastructure development has been implemented. Phase two is expected to be completed within the next five years.
CMA CGM noted in a statement that the latest dock and yard gantry cranes would be put into service at the terminal in the coming weeks in order to rapidly begin operations.
