THE FIRST year of one-stop shopping in the Sasfin Group has proved successful, according to m.d. Roland Sassoon.
This is the use of the group companies Premier Freight and Sasfin Insurance Brokers to provide vital legs in an all-encompassing logistics package from financing and insuring, through inland transportation, warehousing and customs clearing to freight forwarding.
This role as third-party logistics service provider fits in with the latest evolution in the forwarding sector - but tacks on the unusual addition of a form of finance to the overall package.
The first year has benefited from a sharing of mutual clients within the group, according to Sassoon, with the Premier customers (acquired at Sasfin's purchase of a 60% controlling shareholding late in 1997) providing a very positive addition to the list.
Premier has also now launched a pick-and-pack operation. The client is, therefore, able to use this as third-party warehousing, said Sassoon.
We are saying to the client: You are the marketers. We will supply all the services including warehousing, and financing the operating cycles through Sasfin.
This allows the customer companies to stick to their core competencies, he added.
