THE RUN-UP to Cargo Info Africa's Internet Oscar awards begins this week with a detailed assessment of freight forwarder and transport specialist RTT's website. Following the launch of the competition last month, more than 20 sites have been entered, says Cargo Info Africa editor, Gaile Thompson, who will judge every site based on set criteria (see table below).
One entrant will be assessed each week between June and November in FTW. The final award for the Floating Trophy will be announced on November 19."It has been a close contest so far," says Gaile. "The World Wide Web is an ever-changing medium allowing for different strengths to be emphasised on each site."
Comments on the RTT website:
The site is dramatic and downloads quickly on a Microsoft 4.0. Explorer package. Lesser browser capabilities may detract from both the speed and effect. No browser requirement is indicated.
Navigation is clear and accurate. Active selection boxes allow the reader to "participate" in finding information - a useful touch.
The sophisticated TrackIT tracking module is available on the site in password protected format for client use. The unusual career opportunities module is disappointing in that it contains no information - only an email form to the managing director.
Overall an attractive, well presented website.
