The appointment of yet another transport minister to replace previous incumbent Blade Nzimande has cast doubt on the future of a research study into the impact of the movement of high cubes. A moratorium – which enables high cubes to be carried at a height of 4.6m when transported on the back of a normal transport vehicle – will be lifted on December 31. The report, commissioned at the request of the transport minister, was due to be completed this month. A source told FTW a tender had been awarded for the report, but it had since been withdrawn. It remains uncertain whether the research will still be conducted since Nzimande is no longer in office.
