Policeman arrested on suspicion of truck hijacking in Gauteng

Four people, including a flying squad policeman, were arrested after the hijack of a truckload of Handy Andy and Omo, Gauteng police said on Wednesday, according to a report by the South African Press Association (Sapa)

The men were arrested on Tuesday evening and the police officer, a sergeant in the Johannesburg flying squad, was off-duty at the time, Lieutenant Colonel Lungelo Dlamini was quoted by Sapa as saying.

He said the truck belonging to a logistics company and carrying the goods was stopped in Boksburg North on Monday by a white car.

"The suspect's vehicle was fitted with blue lights and they were dressed in metro police uniform. The victims were pointed [at] with firearms and bundled into the suspect's vehicle and later dropped off close to Brits in North West," Dlamini said.

"The truck [horse and trailer] was later traced to Booysens at a business premises where the suspects were off-loading cleaning detergents, including Handy Andy and Omo, valued at more than R1m."

The men were arrested for truck hijacking and possession of stolen goods.
