New on-line trade stats service launched

A NEW source of web-based import and export statistics has just been launched. Developed by Global Insight Southern Africa in association with Tariff & Trade Intelligence, it enables importers, exporters and manufacturers to monitor trade statistics of their own products or product lines based on the 8-digit Harmonised Customs and Excise tariff lines. “Subscription fees start from R200 per month and provide subscribers access to a maximum of 20, 8-digit tariff subheadings for either imports or exports,” says Tariff & Trade Intelligence’s Riaan de Lange. “In addition, to enable the subscriber to study trends, we provide the tariff history of the selected tariff subheadings for a period spanning three years. Such information is further broken down into the individual countries with which South Africa has traded under the subheadings which have been chosen. Each tariff subheading also reflects the value (in South African rands), the quantity and the unit price," says De Lange. “Another feature of the website,” says Global Insight’s Gerhard Bijker, “is our Trade Trend Insight table which uses the 22-sector import and export statistics issued by the South African Revenue Service (Sars) on the last day of each month to provide the subscriber with trade trends for a 3-, 6-, 9- and 12-month period.
