KEVIN MAYHEW THE IMPROVED performance of the Port of Maputo has seen an increase in traffic through the Lebombo border post, according to the general manager of BBCA Komatipoort, Scott Linder. BBCA has representation in Komatipoort at the Nkomazi Border Plaza as well as in Golela and at Musina. Linder believes that South Africans are not viewing Maputo as a complementary port but rather as a threat. “Maputo should be viewed as an option to take up surplus that South African ports cannot handle. We are getting more and more enquiries regarding the use of the port, to be accessed by either road or rail, so people are beginning to notice. This change will not just go away because the South African port authorities want it to,” he says. He said there was major movement in animal feed and wood from Mozambique with a lot of repair and return movement for machinery used in big Mozambican contracts.
