There has been a further indication of trade growth in 2014 from container terminal operator, DP World.
Its global network handled 60 million TEUs for the year, with gross container volumes growing by 8.9% - exceeding the expected 2014 market growth of approximately 5%.
However, with a gain of new volume at London Gateway (UK) and Embraport (Brazil), the like-on-like growth figure would be lower.
The operator noted that the volume increase in 2014 was largely generated by terminals in the Asia Pacific and Indian subcontinental regions, the UAE and Europe – this last of which recorded a welcome return to volume growth in 2014.
