French group takes delivery of its first megaship

The CMA CGM group has taken delivery of the first of six megaships, the CMA CGM Kerguelen.

According to a press statement by the group, the 17 722-TEU vessel – 398 metres long and 54 metres wide –  is CMA CGM’s largest container carrier.

The ship was named after the 18th century French navigator Yves-Joseph de Kerguelen-Trémarec who discovered an archipelago of islands that was later named Archipelago Kerguelen.

CMA CGM Kerguelen is to be officially baptised in Le Havre on May 12.
