Comair and Skywise yesterday claimed victory in their efforts to keep FlySafair grounded when the North Gauteng High Court in Pretoria issued an interdict against the new low-cost airline. Comair’s argument was that the airline’s ownership exceeded the permissible 25% stockholding allowed to be held by a foreign owner and that it should therefore not have been granted a licence by the SA Air Service Licensing Council. The airline – which was due to launch in two weeks’ time - has been prevented from flying pending a review of the licence.
