DAL strengthens SA presence

DAL TRANSPORT GMBH - a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Deutsche Afrika-Linien (DAL) of Hamburg - has decided to increase its identity in the SA market, and started operating under the name DAL Transport SA on November 1.
It was previously operating here, said m.d. Captain Brain Hawkins, but on a low-key basis.
However, it has decided to make itself actively visible, and has now set up its own agency scenario.
The company has established a national chain of offices in Durban, Johannesburg, Port Elizabeth and Cape Town. Each branch will have its own dedicated sales staff, operating under a line manager - with the main back-room activities being centralised at the Durban head office.
Dal Transport SA is acting as an NVOCC (non vessel owning common carrier), Hawkins told FTW, offering worldwide containerised and conventional door-to-door transport.
It is slot chartering on SAECS (SA Europe Container Service), and will be transhipping the containers in Europe to move them to their final destinations.
