CTCT eyes 800 000-TEU mark

The Cape Town Container Terminal (CTCT) is set to hit the 800 000-TEU mark in the very near future as it continues to see growth in container volumes.
Addressing members of the Exporters’ Club Western Cape (ECWC) during a visit to the port last week, CTCT manager Brenda Magqwaka said the port had come a long way in the past three years.
Magqwaka said ongoing growth in container volumes would see the port handle around 800 000 TEUs in 2014 – the highest volume to date.
“Much has been done to improve efficiency, including upping our gantry crane moves per hour to an average of around 34 and improving truck turnaround times to less than 20 minutes on average. We have also improved the ship working hours and continue to strive to make further improvements.”
