Copper theft barometer falls

The level of copper theft fell from 14.96 in September this year to 13.96 in October according to the twelfth monthly SA Chamber of Commerce and Industry Non-Ferrous Metals (Copper) Theft Barometer. The Barometer measures and monitors copper cable theft in South Africa on a monthly basis "As was pointed out in the previous Barometer, there has been a reported increase in imports of copper by China and Japan over the past few months to take advantage of the lower copper price since July 2011. Although this could be said to be reflected in the increase in exports of copper waste and scrap from between July and August, there was a fall in exports in September. Copper theft levels were contained between August and September and fell in October,” according to the report.
