Compu-Clearing adds more strings to its bow

Clients get Internet
connection
at lower rates than traditional service
providers

IT'S BEEN a milestone year for freight computer solutions specialists Compu-Clearing. Outsourcing. Its listing on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange in November coupled with a 20% stake in the company by industrial group Bidvest has set the stage for a new era of development.
The Bidvest investment will target the development of the new business units at Compu-Clearing in the areas of networking, Internet and imaging, Compu-Clearing m.d. Arnold Garber told FTW.
Compu-Clearing Networking offers the outsourcing of Windows/NT networking and involves the installation and maintenance of networks based on Microsoft products.
With this new operating division, Compu-Clearing has embarked on setting up and maintaining Windows/NT networking for the freight industry.
In addition, it can supply rental servers for networks to other customers outside the freight industry. The company is also in a position to offer a countrywide network to clients thereby enabling them to connect their PCs and networks to a centralised Compu-Clearing system.
Internet related services are also on offer which include: the hosting and development of web pages; the linking to electronic business, particularly the track and trace of international shipments and direct access to the worldwide web through Compu-Clearing's 3200 terminals already in the field.
This division offers its Internet-related service in two ways:
n Information providers - in addition to web page development and hosting, Compu-Clearing has the experience and software to offer access to AS/400 via the Internet. This is a big advantage to both its existing client base, as well as to other AS/400 users which contract with the Compu-Clearing group, says Garber..
n Permanent access to the Internet - by the installation of inexpensive additional equipment Compu-Clearing is able to offer its clients a permanent and direct connection to the Internet so preventing them from having to dial into the Internet or sign up with an Internet service provider. This Internet service is available to clients at a substantially lesser amount than that charged by the more popular Internet service providers. This low charge is possible because Compu-Clearing has not needed to install additional diginet lines.
