China’s exports rise but imports drop

Chinese exports reversed their decline in October thanks to the recovery of China's major export markets. According to Chinese daily newspaper, Xinhuanet, China's exports rose 5.6 percent year-on-year in October to US$185.4 billion) customs data showed on Friday. The country's exports fell 0.3 percent in September from a year earlier, ending two consecutive months of growth, according to a statement by General Administration of Customs. It also notes that imports rose 7.6 percent last month from a year ago. Bloomberg News reports Louis Kuijs, chief China economist at Royal Bank of Scotland Group Plc in Hong Kong, as saying: “China’s export numbers suggest some - although not yet decisive - improvement in global demand momentum.”
