African airport has ambitious cargo growth plans

Djibouti-Ambouli International Airport (DIA) is looking for partners as part of a major cargo push. The airport made its first foray into the world of trade shows by exhibiting at the Transport Logistics exhibition in Munich last month in a bid to grow its cargo operation. Air Cargo World spoke to Moussa Houssein Doualeh, air cargo operations manager at DIA, who said that the airport hoped to become a conduit for air cargo to Africa’s landlocked countries. He told the news site that the airport would open a 4 000 square foot warehouse, with cold storage facilities, later this year. Long-term plans include the development of a new airport, to be opened within four years. Ghana Business News reports that in April this year, Ethiopian Airlines signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Djibouti International Airport for the provision of sea-air and air-sea cargo transport of goods in East Africa.
