Advice on choosing the right X-ray machine

There are a number of issues that must be considered by any air cargo/freight business looking to employ X-ray machines to become ‘accredited’ under the Part 108 security regulations, according to Hissco MD Tony Hudson. “The first question that has to answered is what the ‘profile’ is – in terms of volume and size of the cargo being transported. X-ray systems become more expensive the larger their size – so, from a cost pointof- view, this is an important consideration.” There are certain other basic questions. ● Do you have sufficient space for the system? Hudson suggested you request a site visit from the X-ray supplier if necessary. ● Do you have an electrical point close to where you intend to operate it? ● Check your floor loading. X-ray systems contain a lot of lead and are very heavy. ● Do you need input/output rollers for the machine to load and unload the cargo? ● Ask the X-ray systems supplier to provide you with a complete list of options that may assist in recognising and determining images.
