KEVIN MAYHEW JUST MONTHS after acquiring the Gauteng branch of Aviocean in June this year, new managing director Lance van Zyl believes that business on the Far East routes will grow by up to 100% by the end of 2007. “We have a traditionally strong presence in that region and it will get even stronger – and that is looking only at the markets of China, Malaysia, Singapore and Hong Kong. “When you put India into the frame then we are talking explosive growth as it is already competing with the Chinese on many levels,” he told FTW. The company is already moving about 550 containers of imports each month from the Far East, mainly handling textiles, spares and manufactured goods. Aviocean has offices in Durban and Cape Town, which are separately owned by Des Sutherland.
