TNT/Fedex deal hit by a curveball

The proposed TNT Express takeover by FedEx Corporation, initially thought to be a slum-dunk, has hit a snag with regulators in the European Union (EU) saying they may consider demanding concessions.

The Wall Street Journal reports that these concessions could include the selling off of some assets.

Daily airfreight news site, Air Cargo World, reports today that EU regulators could submit a formal complaint to FedEx within a couple of weeks, which could trigger new negotiations.

In 2013, UPS was thwarted by the European Commission in its attempt to acquire TNT amid concerns about reduced competition due to the combined market share of the proposed UPS/TNT entity.
