AN IMPROVEMENT in efficiency at Zimbabwe's customs department will now probably take longer following the theft of computer equipment from head office in Harare.
The equipment is valued at about R200 000 and was stolen despite 24-hour surveillance by security guards.
Police say they are investigating.
Office staff told a Harare newspaper that a senior officer had been negligent and was being protected by superiors.
The best news about the puzzling incident is that the level of service offered by customs will not be affected as the equipment has not yet been installed.
