Ray Smuts reports from Cape Town
CAPE TOWN's newly appointed port services manager Malcolm Green has expressed his ongoing dissatisfaction at the state of in-house security at the port of Cape Town, first reported in FTW on April 21, 2000.
It would be unfair to say there has not been some progress but for me it's not good enough and I am becoming more and more uneasy with security which has now been read the final riot act and given eight weeks to perform. If there is no significant improvement, the future of that department will be reviewed.
Green indicated he was clearly also unhappy with the former contracted security company, recently replaced by three companies with responsibility for IHS, the container terminal and the remainder of the port respectively.
