The Port of Durban has received anonymous faxed threats claiming that white and Indian employees will face attacks at their workplace, particularly at night.
The hand-written faxes complain that management continues to favour white and Indian employees, saying that they dominate blacks the same way at in the times of apartheid.
The writer of both faxes, who may be the same person (they reveal similar spelling errors), claims to be ex-MK and advises Portnet to regard the threats seriously. ...otherwise the same action of killing farmers will also take place at your work place.
Durban's port manager Bax Nomvete says Portnet views these threats in a serious light. We consider the safety of their employees of paramount importance. Meetings with the respective unions have been held and the matter has been handed over to the police.
