Accreditation is more than just a training buzz-word, says Brad Jacklin, executive officer of the Cargo Handling sector (MITB-CB). Education and training providers operating within the maritime industry should seek accreditation with the MITB as soon as they are confident that their course will bear intellectual scrutiny by experts appointed by the MITB.
We have made every effort to ensure that our accreditation has value, he says. We insist on a training provider having a demonstrable quality management system as specified by the Education Training Qualifications Authority (ETQA) and published under Act 58 of 195. We also ensure that those experts doing the accrediting are impartial.
