THERE IS a new shipping duet - combining Netherlands and Nigerian interests - in the transportation of oil and gas products and related cargoes for the West African oil-producing nation.

Last year, a new Nigerian shipping company, African Oil & Gas Carriers (AOGC), was formed by a grouping of private local investors and the national carrier Bulkship Group, specialising in bulk cargoes since its formation in 1985.

A new joint service has now been established between AOGC and Universal West Africa Lines (UAL), a shipping line which has served the West Africa trade since 1975, and falls under the management of Rotterdam-based HMT International Shipping & Forwarding.

This is designed to provide regular liner services - transporting hydrocarbons (crude oil, petroleum products and gas) and oil and gas project-related cargoes - between Nigeria and the three destinations of North America; the North West Continent of Europe and the Mediterranean; and South Africa.

HMT will manage the UAL/AOGC service.
