The Zimbabwe government is sticking to its decision to award the construction contract for the new Harare international airport to Air Harbour Technologies, a company owned by a relative of President Mugabe, Leo Mugabe. The company was awarded the tender despite its proposal being neither the cheapest nor the most suitable according to an independent tender board. The cabinet overturned the board's recommendation to award the contract to France's ADP.
Sources in Harare say that the airport will cost Zim$ lbillion (rand 400 million). It is scheduled to be finished in 1998.
