SOUTH AFRICA scored a first this week when the first living database of shipping professionals was launched.
Southern Africa's Who's Who in Freight is the latest module of Cargo Info Africa to become operative.
Cargo Info is a reference system for importers, exporters and the freight industry distributed electronically through the Internet.
It was launched last week by Travel & Trade Publishing in Johannesburg which also publishes FTW and several printed and electronic travel titles.
The Who's Who project capitalises on the low cost of storing and distributing electronic information to pioneer a service that was inconceivable 24 months ago. The ease of updating makes it possible to add to and amend the Who's Who on a daily basis setting new standards of reliability.
Other modules already operative on Cargo Info include the daily updated integrated sailing schedules of over 50 shipping lines serving South Africa. An electronic version of FTW is also released on Cargo Info before the regular printed edition is put in the post.
Additional modules of the service, which is free to all companies with access to the Internet, will be released over the next few weeks.
The Who's Who will provide the industry with an illustrated database of shipping managers and supervisors in firms that export and import as well as the freight operators which provide them with services.
Fax your details on the Who's Who form accompanying this issue TODAY for free inclusion in the Who's Who (fax 011 7263994). At the first opportunity send Cargo Info a colour photograph of yourself taking care to write your full name on the reverse (P.O. Box 662 Auckland Park 2006).
