THERE is a new no-charge offering through Internet which could affect a lot of message traffic-flow from cargo community systems (CCSs) around the world.
There is a new trend - extremely new, but very definite -amongst the international airlines serving the South African route, where they are making cargo status enquiries available via Internet, said Arnold Garber, MD of the country's primary freight system, Compu-Clearing. This is a vital part of the information service of CCSs, and it has now become available to the public. Lufthansa, Air France, Cathay Pacific, Qantas, Austrian Airlines, Swissair and British Airways already have status information on the Web.
CCSs around the world will have to sharpen their pencils for their charges on status enquiries, said Garber.
* A comprehensive database of all flights out of South Africa and even special airfares will be accessible through Cargo Info Africa within the next fortnight. (Access http://rapidttp.com/cargo on the Internet web).
