New Quay wall for Luderitz

Namport has awarded contracts for the erection of a new 500m quay wall at the port of Luderitz in Namibia.
Construction work is expected to begin this month and will last 18 months. It involves dredging in the area affected and the provision of container storage facilities on reclaimed land. This is in anticipation of increased container traffic through Luderitz as a result of the development of southern Namibia for mining purposes and for a new gasfield project. Ostrich meat exports from the port are also likely to increase.
Upgrading of port equipment is also underway, with the provision of two new wharf cranes on the existing jetty.
