GROWTH OF business in the East Africa/Gulf/SE Asia trade has persuaded sea carrier, Maersk Line, to upgrade its services on the route.
The line has basically split the trade into two operations. The rotation for the now upgraded A-string is Jebel Ali-Dar es Salaam-Zanzibar-Nacala-Beira-Durban-Dar Es Salaam-Victoria-Jebel Ali. This on a bi-weekly scheduling.
The B-string, meantime, will be calling weekly at the ports of Jebel Ali-Mombasa-Colombo-Marmagao-Jebel Ali.
Questioned on the growth areas and cargo categories, Maersk's Morten Lund was not talking.
"But," he said, "with the new set-up, customers will enjoy an improved product between the ports covered.
"Main advantages we are now offering include:

Zanzibar, Tanzania and Nacala, Mozambique being added as new ports of call; Coverage of Dar es Salaam being upgraded to weekly calls - southbound to Durban, and northbound to Jebel Ali; Our Middle East-SA-Middle East service has been improved substantially - offering additional capacity and enhanced rotation to customers in this corridor."
