JULY 1 marked the opening of the ledgers at Status Maritime's new financial services subsidiary - StatusSure.
Set up by m.d. Shirley Smith, the new operation stemmed from the perceived advantages of providing financial services alongside the core Status business of SA agents for Kien Hung Line.
I was in insurance, said Smith, and numbered Status Maritime amongst my clients. We soon decided that merging our talents would provide a productive financial services area.
The new entity will be dealing in life insurance; pensions; medical aids for companies and individuals; and short-term commercial and personal lines.
With the staff we have aboard, said Smith, we have the right sort of size and strength to meet a distinct need in the market.
A lot of the operations are too big for comfortable, client intimacy. But we will offer a personal service - yet sufficient in products and numbers to present a one-stop financial services shop to the clientele.
