The KwaZulu-Natal provincial government will tomorrow (December 9) unveil a comprehensive plan aimed at curbing crime and road crashes as well as fatalities during this year’s festive season.
The focus of the campaign will be on joint provincial law enforcement. This year’s plan also includes interprovincial operations that will see the KwaZulu-Natal government and law enforcement teams working with other neighbouring provinces such as Free State, Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
Personnel and resources will be beefed up in all relevant areas – from the South African Police Service, the Department of Transport’s Road Traffic Inspectorate and municipal traffic officers, to the Department of Health’s emergency medical service and forensic pathologists.
MEC for Transport, Community Safety and Liaison, Willies Mchunu, has also vowed to curb overloading.
