Consultancy services also available
AFTER 45 years in the shipping industry, Don Strachan has decided it's time to put his experience to good use in the fields of training and consultancy.
Strachan's comprehensive background includes clearing and forwarding, ship's agency, warehousing, road transport and travel. He has held various senior positions in the industry, the last with Cosren which recently restructured and cut back staff following Cosco's decision to slot-charter with Evergreen, a move which led him to take early retirement.
Strachan had already decided to set up a consultancy when he was struck by the needs of the industry for training, particularly in the field of ship's agency.
He is currently working on the material for a practical introductory course.
The idea is to provide a bridging course which will enable the student to go on to the Chartered Institute of Shipbrokers programmes which are recognised worldwide.
The envisaged 2-day basic course, encompassing clearing and forwarding, ship's agency and transport, will begin in August.
He will offer in-house training in the Gauteng region.
