FOR THE alcoholically-adventurous amongst our readers, there has been an interesting easing
of import controls on a number of fermented beverages.
While the better known names of wine and vermouth are now import permit free, so also are other fermented beverages - like cider, perry and mead.
Again, while most of you will also know that cider and perry are products of apple and pear origin respectively, the lesser-known mead may attract your palate.
For those not in the know, mead is a liquor of fermented honey and water, to which malt, yeast and spices are added. All this now import permit-free.
