Training courses make officials more effective
ILLEGAL IMPORTS which are threating the future of the textile industry in this country are to receive the urgent attention of the South African Revenue Service (SARS).
More effective targeting of illegal consignments and transactions is now in progress following a meeting of SARS and the Textile Federation on June 17. The overall goal of these initiatives, says a statement from SARS, is to improve tax morality within the industry.
The textile federation has already provided training for SARS officials at two major seaports and as a result of the improved effectiveness it has been agreed to extend these courses to other points of entry as well.
The industry has also acknowledged an improvement in customs effectiveness during the past few months and envisages a closer working relationship with SARS in future.
