A NEW generation of ISO freight containers notable for their low tare weight and improved durability has been developed by South Korea's Jindo Corporation.
The application of extra high strength steel, in particular
for the main framework of
the container, facilitates a
significant reduction in the tare weight without compromising the integral strength, according to a spokesman. Indeed, the new containers are probably more robust than traditional units.
Further weight saving has been achieved by using Scandinavian laminated spruce softwood which, has been found to have the best strength/weight ratio of any floor currently available for containers. The material is also more environmentally friendly, he said.
