Containership fire at Port of Hamburg

The CCNI Arauco which caught fire at the Port of Hamburg.

A fire broke out on a containership docked at the Port of Hamburg yesterday (Thursday), according to online sources.

The fire began at 13h00 on the Liberian 9000-TEU containership, the CCNI Arauco, reports Port Technology.org. 

An investigation has suggested that the fire was caused by welding work taking place on board. Sparks from the welding are believed to have ignited part of a container and quickly spread. The fire was contained with the help of fireboats and over a hundred firefighters on the ground.

Three workers suffered injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital.
