Botswana to become power exporter by 2018

Coal power

With an end goal of exporting electricity by 2018, Botswana will this week award a contract to build a 30-MW coal-fired power station.

"Hopefully the decision will be made by Thursday," mining, energy and water minister Kitso Mokaila was quoted by Reuters as saying.

The plant is expected to take three years to build andwill  give the country 1000MW of power, exceeding the national demand by about 390MW, said Mokaila.
