Airfreight rates continue to rise, but still behind last year’s levels

This graph shows the fluctuations in rates over the past year.

Airfreight rates reached their highest level of the year last month, but continue to fall short when compared with last year, according to the latest data from Drewry & Air Shipper Insight.

The independent adviser noted in its latest report that the weighted average airfreight rate on 21 key east-west trades had climbed to US$3.31 per kg, which is 11.7% lower than last year’s rate of $3.75 per kg, Drewry said.

Rates are expected to climb further in November as it is the busiest month of the year.
