Zuma launches the new generation Toyota Hilux and Fortuner models in Durban

The new generation Toyota Hilux will be produced in SA as part of Toyota’s R6.1-billion investment into South Africa’s manufacturing industry.

Today (Tuesday) saw the official launch by President Jacob Zuma of the new generation Toyota Hilux and Fortuner at Toyota’s Prospecton plant in Durban.

The new models are part of Toyota’s R6.1 billion investment into South Africa’s manufacturing industry and the country’s local vehicle production.

During his State of the Nation Address (Sona) in February this year, Zuma announced that the support provided by government through the Department of Trade and Industry had attracted investments of over R25 billion in the automotive industry in the past five years and that the investment was beginning to bear fruit.

“The investment by the Japanese manufacturer Toyota is a demonstration of the continued confidence that global automotive producers have in South Africa as an investment destination and the supportive policy environment that the country offers,” said a presidential spokesperson in a statement.
