Zim airline’s operations suspended amid fraud charges

Flyafrica Zimbabwe operations have been suspended by the Civil Aviation Authority in Zimbabwe (CAAZ).

CAAZ raised concerns because of the relationship between flyafrica.com and its Zimbabwean partner.

"This follows charges made by flyafrica.com against flyafrica Zimbabwe, who has been involved in serious fraud and theft totalling $140 000, and has been in breach of its directorial and fiduciary duties," says flyafrica.com ceo, Adrian Hamilton-Manns.

In retaliation, the Zimbabwean partner illegally and unilaterally attempted to surrender its Air Operating Certificate (AOC) with CAAZ, according to Hamilton-Manns.

On October 29, flyafrica.com held a meeting with CAAZ at an attempt to find a solution. “It was a positive meeting, and CAAZ have asked for two documents showing that due process was followed. My team are back at CAAZ to submit these, and hopefully hear good news,” says Adrian.

In the interim, the airline had sourced an alternative aircraft from one of its other partners, and reported that the flyafrica Zimbabwe BUQ flight as well as the evening HRE flight operated on schedule on October 29.

Sales for all flights until October 30 have however, ceased, and any passenger who cannot reach their destination can expect a full refund.

“The past 24 hours have been like no other, and in all my career I have never experienced something like this,” Hamilton-Manns told eTNW.
