Zambian transport association signs multimillion dollar oil contract

The Petroleum Transporters’ Association of Zambia (PTAZ) has signed a one-year contract, worth more than US$20 million, with Trafigura Oil Trading Company to transport oil into Zambia.

PTAZ spokesperson, Benson Tembo, said PTAZ members were expected to transport 38 million litres of oil into the country by the end of this month.

“PTAZ has signed a contract for one year with Trafigura to transport oil from East Africa, Zimbabwe and Mozambique into Zambia – the first time local transporters have been contracted for this kind of project,” said Tembo.

He said PTAZ had more than 40 members on its books who had been permitted to transport oil.

According to him, previously only foreign transporters had won contracts of this magnitude. “This government, through President Edgar Lungu, heeded our cry and we are grateful,” he said.
