ZA Trans buys TRT

Joy Orlek IN A deal worth R20m, ZA Trans Logistics has acquired TRT Shipping from the JSE-listed Oceana Group. With offices in Cape Town and Walvis Bay, TRT’s services range from freight forwarding and customs clearing to bunkering and ship's agency. It currently employs approximately 80 people. “This latest addition to the ZA Trans family ties in with the first step of our international expansion plans,” ZA Trans CEO Warren Erfmann told FTW. “TRT’s office in Namibia will allow us to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Walvis Bay Corridor and forms part of our strategy to extend our operations into Africa. In addition, we now have tremendous growth opportunities in ship’s agency and bunkering, something in which we were previously not involved.” According to a company source, there are no immediate plans to absorb the TRT name and there will be no operational changes in the short term. “We look forward to the opportunity of developing our synergies,” said TRT MD Jürgen Heynemann. ZA Trans is wholly owned by supply chain management major Barloworld Logistics.
