West African demand for SA wines on the up

South African wine producers are looking to West Africa to boost their sales on the continent, catering for Angola’s demand for sparkling wine and Nigeria’s love of Cape reds, according to a report by Nigerian daily newspaper, Vanguard.

Matome Mbatha, of Wines of South Africa (Wosa) was cited by Vanguard as saying that SA wine producers were aiming to more than their double annual sales growth to Nigeria, noting that exports of mostly red wine to Nigeria had risen to 4.5 million litres per annum.

Angola currently buys around 6 million litres, of which 5 million litres are sparkling wine, mainly shipments of J C  Le Roux, said Mbatha.
