KZN traffic authorities have impounded over 19 heavy vehicles since September 20 in the wake of the Pinetown accident that left 23 people dead. KZN transport department said more officers would be stationed at Fields Hill to deal with errant drivers and faulty vehicles. Three of the suspended vehicles belong to Sagekal Logistics, owners of the so-called ‘Pinetown death truck’. Sagekal labelled the raid a “despicable and manipulative act of victimisation” by the transport department. But KZN Transport MEC, Willies Mchunu, said it was not the first time such accusations had een levelled against them.
