CONTINUING EDUCATION furthers the development of all staff at many different levels, according to Belinda Gault, human resources (HR) manager at UPS Supply Chain Solutions.
“We strongly support this,” she told FTW, “and this is demonstrated through several programmes that are a benefit to all UPS SCS employees.”
The company has been involved in the pilot learnership projects for both the forwarding and clearing and the courier industries
“These,” said Gault, “have proven to be very successful.
“Both these projects have offered opportunities to the unemployed to gain the practical knowledge and skills needed to build a career in our industry.”
Due to the success of this programme, the company intends to continue to roll out further learnerships on an ongoing basis.
UPS SCS places as much importance on its internal training programmes.
“Therefore,” said Gault, “we run various programmes which are supported by the dynamic strengths and expertise of both management and employees.
“The internal training programmes have allowed employees to share their knowledge and expertise - assisting with multi-skilling.”
UPS has also made a number of group training programmes available to all its staffers around the world.
“This,” said Gault, “has given a growing number of employees from SA the ability to travel to various destinations around the world and meet fellow colleagues.”
